Create a Mission Statement

A mission statement is important because the customer should be able to tell what your website and company is all about just by reading the simple phrase or sentence. This phrase or sentence will allow for the customer to recognize exactly what you are trying to do in a short period of time. With a good mission statement you can attract customers and your target audience in one or two seconds. Here are a few steps to develop a great mission statement.

  1. Research. The research you do should include the website’s you visit and the emails you receive. Make a list of the words that grab your attention. Study how they are used and what is significant about the subject lines. Recognize the most important thing about you and your products. Determine what makes your product unique. Figure out the message you want to give to your potential customers that will create a bond between the two of you. This is important to develop a long lasting customer relationship.
  2. Gather your research and write. After you have gathered the information you need, write three separate promotional messages in lengths of five to six words, ten to twelve words, and a twenty five word description of what you offer and why you stand out from the competition. This will take some practice. You may find yourself rewriting the same message over and over just to experiment with a plethora of word combinations.
  3. Test and repeat. Create and send an emails to a few people. Make sure it is people you respect and trust will be honest with you. The people you choose should not be afraid to reject the message you are trying to send. Their criticisms will help you refine your message and make it the best it can be. When you find the message that gets the job done and the response you are looking for resist the urge to change it. Use it as your core promotional message on your website.
